Everything in this painting looks so well done as to easily be mistaken for a tasteful photo. The trees are detailed and natural, the grass looks lush and not generic. My probkem is with the 'ath'. It looks more like a narrow muddy stream of water than a path to walk on for a few reasons: The pattern of it is exaggerated, it is rather narrow for a foot path and the way it converges on it's vanishing point seems a little bulging.
All and all though, a very good painting, even though it was done last year. I would quite like to know how long this "speed painting" took you. Even without -too- complex a colour pattern on it, 5'*3' is a large are to cover that well.
Maybe you won't become the rampant murderer I thought you might after your little project. What's in the pipeline for now?

It's nice to be important but it's more important to be nice.
At the time I painted this, my intention was to give it a sort of dark and eerie feel. I also wanted it to be a powerful image in order to make the viewer feel insecure, hence the size of the canvas. Whether I achieved this, I do not know...
Thanks for commenting.
This was actually based on a photograph I took near where I live. It's a place where me and some of my friends used to hang out a few years back. The path at the vanishing point gets a little wider as it curves off to the left which may explain it's odd shape. Oh and you're not the first person to say that the path looks like a stream of water.
I can't remember exactly how long it took to paint. I think it was about a few hours on and off. However I do remember that I was in a bit of a pissed off mood while I was painting it.
Anyway I'm off on my summer break now. No more university until October. I am currently working on quite an ambitious project I have set myself. I've been playing around with Flash and I have written a script for an animation. I'm still in the pre-production stages, doing character designs and everything but we'll see how it turns out.
